Star power should lift New Year’s Eve to a box office victory this weekend, with the famous face-packed romantic comedy replacing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 as North America’s #1 movie.
New Year’s Eve is expected to hit $16 million, enough to debut ahead of Jonah Hill‘s The Sitter ($9 million) and Breaking Dawn ($7 million).
The crowded chart includes a trio family films – The Muppets, Hugo and Arthur Christmas – all tracking toward roughly $6-7 million for the weekend.
After that, it’s dramedy The Descendants ($4.5 million), just in front of penguin extravaganza Happy Feet Two ($4 million).
Adam Sandler cross-dressing farce Jack and Jill is still in the Top 10 after several weeks, placing at #9 ($3 million).
Immortals should round out the chart with roughly $2.5 million.
